Do you guys use engine oil that has been opened and sitting around for 4 months?
I know that it's not good to use old opened brake fluid. Just wodering of the same rule applies for engine oil too.

I have no problem using oil that has been setting on the shelf for a while like that. As a matter of fact I buy to 5 quart jugs when I change the oil in my Z because it takes 6 quarts to fill it. I keep using the partial 5 quart jug until it is gone.

The problem with regular brake fluid is that it absorbs moisture after being opened. The oil will be fine, no problem.

Even the notion of brake fluid going bad is exaggerated. How often do you change the brake fluid in your master cylinder ? It can sit on the shelf a reasonably long time once the seal is broken as long as you keep the cap on tight and don't let moisture get in it. With oil, I don't even know if there is an expiration time. Just common sense.
