Default 1977 Identification

Can anyone help? I have a 1977 corvette VIN ending in 408887. I need to get parts for a restoration but am not sure whether it is a an early or late model. How can I find out? I cannot buy according to what is on the car as I am not sure that the existing parts are correct for the car. I have researched the numbers and know that the vehicle was the 8887th model made in 1977, of about 49000, which includes L48 and L82 models etc etc etc.

Your car is considered an early '77. It was built late September or early October.

Yours was built in Oct. '76 so it was early.....

But if '77s are anything like '76s, early & late can be relative. Mine was built in late April '76 yet most early/late questions on mine end up with it being an early '76!!...........

Zimmi, mine is 17040 and it is an early. This really matters when you are working with things like T-Top weather stripping, location of alams, wiring harnesses, etc. I am guessing you will be safe with early parts. When in doubt you can always ask the guys at Willcox and some of the other suppliers, they are quite knowledgeable and always willing to help. The folks on this forum help out a great deal as well. If there are particular parts you are seeking or if there is anything we other 77E guys can help you with please let us know.
Good luck with your repairs.

Thanks for your help guys. David I appreciate your suggestion. I am indeed looking to get t-top weatherstrip so will get on to Willcox. As a bit of background or, alternatively, useless information, I am slowly improving the car. I have repaired the wiring looms and have to replace the dash as it fell apart when trying to replace a bulb! I have to rebuild the tilt-tele as the bearings were shot. The vacuum lighting system has been re-plumbed as it did not work. The car has been in my garage for the last two years with me working on her, as and when time, and the missus, permits. It has taken a while to get the money together but am now in a position to buy all the parts I need to get her on the road. Once that happens I have to get sidepipes, HEI ignition, etc etc. I cant wait to get her out and play on tarmac in a manner for which she was to designed!! Me-thinks this will be a while yet.
