Default Quick question

I've got a 74 L82 Auto, is the tranny in it the TH-400? I've searched a couple of times and I'm just not sure. Also, what is the stall speed on the stock converter?

Also, I'm ordering a Transgo kit to put on while I've got the Vette up to put on the sidepipes and was wondering which one to get. Not looking for break neck shifting, but would like something quite a bit firmer.

Stock stall speed is in the 1800-2000 rpm range. If you have increased the HP of your engine, then the stall speed (using that same converter) will be at a higher rpm [greater the HP increase, the higher the stall speed]. Most folks don't understand the 'stall speed' concept...it do NOT get the same stall speed regardless of input torque. If you are looking for a higher stall speed than stock, and your engine is more powerful than stock, you may be OK with the original converter. If you've added 70 HP or more, you will need to buy a new converter that is designed to accept that level of torque/HP and will provide you the stall speed you want with the horsepower that you now have. Call a reputable converter manufacturer/vendor...don't buy one from the local auto parts store [they know nothing about stall speed parameters].
