Avoid having this painter do any work...

Good luck, hope you get some of your money back

Either way, BRING IT BACK and make them do it right, or threaten legal action.
As others said, what work, issues were listed in the estimate & contract?
Hope everything you originally pointed out is in it, and not just a conversation and a hand shake.
Either way you have every right to be unhappy, especially for that price!
Keep us posted, and good luck.

"And take the rest of the tape off."
Was there a contract? Were there discussions about patrticulars? Were you involved in the process? Did he quote you $6k and hand you a bill for $17k?
with everything Steve said. Please fill us in on exactly how this deal was made. Especially if $17k was the amount you agreed to up front.

I"m painting my own car...so the budget is considerable less, but maybe that green I choose can look as good....
And for those that thought this was a "rushed" job - he had the car for a year and a half. That was just ridiculous.
The reason I don't is because he has a wife and kids and they shouldn't suffer because he's a cheating twit. I also have a marriage coming up, and cannot afford the time spent in legal proceedings prior to that event. I basically wanted to warn people that might end up looking for high quality paint - don't trust this one.

In general, the auto service industry is known to pull crap like this on the public. Who amongst us hasn't been ripped off at least once by some sob at a parts counter, wrecker service, garage, etc?
One big reason I have always enjoyed the specialty equipment and provider side of that business, is the integrity and business relationships people make out of them. I have made life friends with guys who had similar interests and practiced good ethics. I'm aware it's also a two-edged sword; many customers don't play nice either.
Sometimes, it's cheaper to walk away and take your lumps, especially if pursuing a court case only increases more $ outlay, not to mention more time. Again, who amongst us is burdened with too much of either? You have great evidence in the photos but would it be enough in court? Each situation may be different; not sure they all result in a solution to make you satisfied.
Thanks for the heads up on the painter. Ultimately, his family may end up paying the price if his business tactics/practices become well known; you'd wish they are not complicit to his way of making money. Hard to recover customers once the trust is lost and your reputation becomes well known.
Good Luck.

However... no contact, no quote (how does a painter "fail" to give a quote? The work should not begin without a quote)... as shoddy as this was, this could be tough to recover in court. Might not be worth paying a lawyer.
Have in mind what you are willing to accept from him, and ask him for it.
Good luck, sorry you are having to deal with this.

For what you paid I would expect perfection, you sure didn't get it. Having said that I would NEVER spend that kind of money on a paint job unless I was painting something VERY valuable...................
Sadly it is hard in this day and age to find any one that gives a s**t about the quality of work they do. That is why I try to do as much as I can myself, but yeah doing paint by yourself is a challenge esp. on a vette.
Good luck, try to work it out with him and get some of your money back before going for lawyers because the only winner there will be the lawyers.......
As for the 'quality' of work, I'd expect better from a high school shop class - full of punks.

Well if you look at their website they do a nice video of a burnout with a Silverado. I just wondered if that was a customers car.

Yes, well said. My thoughts exactly.

ALWAYS research and get MULTIPLE quotes long before even THINKING of signing a contract.
