this is what automakers do for "mid cycle updates" trying to get more life out of a particular body style with minimum engineering updates...cost saving measure.
I'd half agree, but what do you do to an already well-engineered car? I understand there are always improvements, but obviously GM does not need to be spending money right now on R&D, I think this is a simple yet something new idea they were able to offer while keeping spending low.

It's not blue!
Seriously, having actually read the article, I wouldn't exactly consider the coupe version with manual box (shouldn't even be available with an auto, IMCO) and GS edition specific gearing, dry sump lubrication system, differential cooler, Z06 fenders and big meats, 14"/6-piston front brakes, improved suspension tuning, and sub 4.0 sec 0-60 performance just some lame "trim package". My $.02...
I'm not moved by it either way. I don't hate it or love it. To me it's missing the visual and performance appeal that the C4 Grand Sport still has to this day. Maybe a hotter choise in wheels would help?
It looks like a commity in Washington came up with this one.........
