I own a '79 and I need some suggestions with a problem I am having. I have no dash lights or center cluster lights whatsoever. I turn my head lights on and they come on and I can click the light switch to the left and it turns on the courtsey lights inside but none of the instrument lights come on. Not even dim. I am guessing that I need to replace the printed circuit boards for the speedo, tach, and cluster but all of the gauges work properly they just dont light up. If anyone could throw me a tip, that would be awesome. I appreciate. thanks,
Charlie
Sounds like it could be the headlight switch dimmer pot. it controls the light level and somtimes opens from corrosion or age. you'll have to pull your switch and look at it. Don't remember if the dash redesign allows you to reach it, you have to drop the steering column to reach it on 77 and erlier. The switch **** is released by pulling it out, then pushing the button circled, then you unscrew the holder. Watch the order of the vacume hoses (2).
When I was putting in my stereo I had ALL kinds of interior lighting issues that were due to the way the electrical harness plugged into the back of the center console. I had to re-glue the circuit board down to make sure the correct terminals were lined up with the correct contacts. If there is an aftermarket stero in your car, maybe your interior lights havent worked since??
