Adhesive question
So I am removing the support that the headlight relays, headlights, and and horn bolt too.
It is held in place by some form of adhesive, 2 supports that attach inside the fender and a rod down to the radiator support.
In any case, it has all come loose except for 6 inches on the driver side corner. I cant really get it to let loose and if I yank on it any more than I have I will probably break the fiberglass.
The support is pretty much rusted out, hence why I am replacing it.
Any idea how I can get this out without busting my fiberglass?
Can you get a grinder in there? grind off around the edges and try to get under it.
To put it back on, get a tube of SMC panel adhesive. Looks like one of those 5 minute epoxy tubes that mix as you squeeze it out, only each tube is the size of a beer can. well, not quite, but you get the idea.
Use a thin blade putty knife and drive it between the support bar and the body. It will break the bond without destroying the surround. After it is removed then use a abrasive disc to sand the surface flat. Then glue the new bar on with Fusor two part cement.
I have done several and have not had problems. Just go slow and don't yank on it as you will cause more problems.
