Whats it worth - 69 Corvette

Hi Guys,

I have a lead on a 69 Corvette. The car is an original L-36 (390hp) car based on the tank sticker, however the 390 was blown up back in the day and it was replaced with a 350. The car is Blue with a tan interior. It is a coupe. The paint and interior car nice.

What’s a ball park figure for this car? Obviously, it will fluctuate a little depending on options. I am waiting for more info.

Thank you,
Dave

Hi Dave,
I believe Nutsy is right, there's no way to give even a 'ballpark' value with the info you've posted.
I'd say that the options you mention won't, regardless of what they are, be able to make up for the missing original engine.
The plus side is it IS a 69 BB car. Unless it a SB car with a BB hood ... but of course no one ever did that years ago. You'll have to do a lot of looking to determine that it is a BB car.
Pictures and description!
Regards,
Alan

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. Let’s presume for argument sake that it was originality a 390hp car. And let’s base that presumption on the tank sticker (that is still on the tank). Now of course it has a 69 dated 350. The car has original paint, I would not repaint it, the interior is mint original and just needs to be cleaned with soap and water, and it needs a good vacuum. No hit body, all original fiberglass, straight frame, no rust. Engine compartment and frame need a good detail (if I get the car I would do it myself).

I'm just trying to gauge what its worth. I am hesitant to post pictures on a public forum because I would like to pursue this car, and I do not want someone taking it out from under me. The car is for sale by a private person.

Are we talking $10K, $20K, etc. I just need a range.

Thanks!
-Dave

The originality of the paint and the interior have little value if the engine is NOM. If it needs paint and interior replacement it would add significantly to the cost to restore. Frame condition? Rust? Brakes?

Based on what you have told us (which is very little) it would range from $3K to $20K depending on condition.

cash
If your serious bring some cash, make a real offer. Only way to find out, nobody here can see with-out a crystal ball/ get down and dirty with cash and see if he jumps when he sees in on the kitchen table. Easy way to purchase any car. Good luck.

MosportGreen66,

I would look at it differently. From your description it sounds like a good condition car with exception of some chassis detailing. I would start to value it as if it were a factory documented L36 coupe. Then deduct the costs of purchasing the correct original pieces to bring the car back to its original configuration. Take the beginning price of purchasing a correct original L36 Corvette and then deduct the costs to bring this car to that level, as a "restoration Corvette" ie; correct replacement components [not original to this car] so that the car appears original. The difference should be what you would offer to purchase this 'vette for.

WAG $10K-15K but of course the owner thinks it's a $100K car cause that's what they get at Barrett Jackson. But like all's been said above, what else (becides a period correct 427 if you want to make it back to a NOM 427 car) does it need -calipers, rotors, front suspension, body mounts, trailing arm work, etc etc etc. If it got a rusted frame, turn and run quick.

I would have said $15k give or take based on the description, a nice car but NOM . A '69 350 block has some value for resale. You could always put a crate 454 in it and dress it like an L36 and enjoy it as an "intermediate" option.

69's are great cars. I believe it can only go up in value. While I lean towards roadsters, if the car is clean I would try and buy it. The earlier post about dropping in a 454 is a great idea. My brother-in-law drove my roadster, went home to Seattle and promptly bought a 69 BB numbers coupe. He also bought a 62 to restore. My 68 L36 is a numbers car, and I couldn't care less. But that's just me... Buy the damn car and enjoy it.

Hi Guys,

Again that’s so much for all the posts and ideas. Here's more information about the car.

It’s not supposed to be blue. It was repainted in the early 1970's. It’s supposed to be Fathom Green with a Saddle interior. The interior again is original and mint, with the exception of an aftermarket radio and steering wheel.

As you guys know from my previous posts, the car is supposed to be an L-36 427ci x 390hp. But also what I found out is the car is supposed to have air conditioning. With that said, the car does not have any air conditioning parts with the exception of the dash vents.

To recap, this is what the car should be:
Fathom Green / Saddle
L-36, 4 speed, 3:36 rear
PS, PB, PW, A/C, Removable rear window.

Thoughts on a price?

Thanks,
Dave

If the frame and birdcage have no rust along with all the underside parts, I would guess around 12-15k
