I have the center console and brake console out while reparing fiber opitics. Noticed bulbs for cig liter and heater did not work. Radio was working before I removed console etc. All instrument lites work. I know there is a ground that attaches in front of the cig liter that I have unhooked. First, is this ground for the radio, cig liter lite and heater lite? Second, can I attach a jumper to this ground and attach to park brake to test radio and lites without putting console back in? HELP! Year is 69. Oh, and I have a wiring diagram but am at a loss for how to read the thing.
Yes, you should be able to run a jumper to the ground wire to test the circuit. Does the light in the radio work? The radio and light share the same ground.
No. The light in the radio doesn't work now either. I'm going to try running a ground to the battery and to the ground under the console to check everything.
...I know there is a ground that attaches in front of the cig liter that I have unhooked....First, is this ground for the radio, cig liter lite and heater lite?...
Lighter only. If memory serves, the ground for the radio is part of the harness plug on the side of the radio. You may find a blade terminal on the underside of the console trim plate which provides a ground for the plate and heater controls.
I believe Mike is right.
The ground for the radio is part of the harness connection. Gray... light, yellow... power, black... ground.
The radio can be tested just sitting loose in the car if its connected to the harness, since the speakers are grounded through the radio too.
