Has any had any dealings with an outfit called Just Corvettes in St Charles MO? My stock 69 427 started backfiring after I replaced the tach gear in the distributor. I changed points, set timing again and it did not solve the problem.
My car has been in the shop now for about 6 weeks. They have done a tune up, rebuilt carb, new fuel lines installed, new plug wires and I still have the same backfiring problem. They even replaced the points and said they were worn (maybe 150 miles since I replaced).
I know this will be a battle when the bill comes. Anyone have work done there?

Only dealt with them just once. I called their shop inquiring about a used gas tank. After I balked at their high price for a used tank they told me the new reproduction tanks sold elsewhere were made in Pakistan. After that conversation I don't feel comfortable trusting them. They sounded too much like a shady used car salesmen while trying to snow me on a crummy gas tank.
Hope the final bill isn't too high! Have they been giving you quotes all along as they played process of elimination?
Dan the Man....
A blind guy took a 68 convertible down there w/his wife, and was suppose to have minimal work done, and they RAPED him. What a shame!
It doesn't do any good now,but there are alot of forum members from the St.Louis area that would be very eager to help you out for a few cold ones,a few lies shared, and some chow.
Get your car,bud.

If you need a good mechanic....I have a guy right outside of St.Louis off 44 that bought my junk 71 LT1 car,and he can wrench, has a machine shop, and a good guy.PM me if you need him.
They have been giving me prices but I can't understand how a specialty shop can have the car for 6 weeks and still not be able to diagnose the problem. I am going to have to find somewhere else to try when I have any other problems.
When we were kids we use to take the dist cap off and draw A line around the inside of the cap with A lead pencil ,the car would run after that but it back fired like crazy.??????????????

I may be stating the obvious but have you checked the firing order? You said you changed the tach gear, maybe thats when the wires got switched and changing the points didn't help. Possibly the new wires were just installed in the same place as before and the order not checked.
When I was 16 I had an old camaro I installed headers and crossed 2 of the wires and it backfired like crazy. Me and all my friends couldn't figure it out. The next day while I was at school, my dad fixed it and never let me live that one down.
If this is the case you never want to use THAT shop again.
