Default 79 Rear Emblem

The rear emblem was missing when I bought the car, I've got a replacement but how do you get in there to attach the push nuts?
Looks like I would have to drop the tank, but there must be an easier way.
Thanks

there is. look behind the license plate. remove those 3 bolts. then get on your back look up between the bumper (you are pulling outwards on) and you will see a bolt going up on either side. remove those. thennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn...you have an aluminum backer plate up there (mine was shiney) one bolt for that to move aside. there is the taillight wiring harness attached to it also. then you can feel for the three nuts to remove.

I think the PO did that after he painted it and that's why the emblem was missing.
