and a clean dry air supply won't come cheap.
I am preparing to sray my 69 in a couple weeks ! 69VETT
Rustoleum paint job here. I got my inspiration from lowbuck who painted his yellow. Its definitely the cheapest way to go. Quite a bit of work but I would say $100 total is a lot better than a few thousand and maybe ending up with a crappy job.
I didnt want to buy all the spray equipment and stuff like that, and I wanted to drive my car without worrying about my paint getting messed up. It doesnt require masks, taping off, plastic, fans and all that dust free enviroment. You can paint whenever. You can also spray the rustoleum and it would look even better and be a lot quicker.
Either way its all about the prep, almost any type of painting will look good if enough work is put into it.
I say go for it, If you don't like it...strip it and take it to a pro, or re-try it.
Can I paint my own car in my Garage? and do a great job? is there a good instructional video available? or am I nuts?
Absolutely!!! I tell ya, there's nothing like it....rolln' down the road in your own paint!! Here is a link, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...llow-pics.html that may be helpful. If you have any questions..feel free! Muddy
With in the link above is some other helpful links...
BTW: Since the initial paint... I have resurected the Costco paint booth twice!!! to repair cough cough issues. Once I hit the garage, and peeled the clear and base (primer stayed) off the right rear fender lip, F@#*K, and once again rock chip issues. What I'm trying to say is, if you learn the techniques...you can fix your own issues at a latter date.

Thank you... now I know it can be done correctly, now to start teaching myself. I am a High School teacher, so I have the summer off, I may go work for a body shop for a month and learn that way, I do know a few personally... i'll keep you posted... thx, p:-)
Just try to remember that the actual proof is gonna be in the finese of the body work, so thats what I'd strive for, perfect body work. The actual painting , although difficult if you let it be, is actually a breeze. Good Luck and the b/shop job is a good idea. Peace,,,Moosie
Absolutely, I painted my black 1980 vette in my very small 1 car garage. First car I have ever painted, the key is prep, prep, prep, then prep some more. It is very true that spraying it takes no time at all it is the previous steps that take time. My paint job turned out amazing. I used a 60 gallon compressor 50ft hose running into a regulator/filter then 25ft of hose ran into a canister filter(sometimes referred to as a toilet paper filter) then 25ft of hose ran into a desicant filter before the gun regulator. I also used a Devilbiss Starting line Spray Gun kit. When I got the car someone had backed into the pass quarter cracked it in two seperate places both about 15" long cracks. I reglassed the back half of the quarter used a little body filler and knowone would ever know. I recommed painting it yourself because it is way more rewarding, cheeper and not to mention way cooler. If you can learn to paint a vette you can paint anything.
Gosh... you guys are making me so damb jellies! those are some great paint jobs, I think I will do it... I should start a string about post of your own paint jobs... this is cool? any other pictures?
