Default Rubber door seal question

On my '71 Conv. there is a rubber seal above the trim tag and also on the passenger side. I've noticed a few pictures lately of other '71's that don't have these seals. The silver one in the second photo is a '72 Conv. and in the third photo shows a '73 Conv. and both don't have the rubber pieces. I know mine is fact. original, so are these pieces not being replaced when needed, or did some cars not come with them? Did they omit them in '73?
Just curious for reference.

They should be there. I believe they are to divert water/rain runoff from going inside the door

68-72's came with the windshield piller post weatherstrip with the added extension. There seams to be some debate as to when these were eliminated. It was during 72, but I'm not sure when. Some say no 72's had the extensions, some say all? Either way, they are correct for your 71. Often people leave them off of 68-71's. I don't think they really did anything to keep water out, just ran it further forward on the hinges. These pillar w/s add about $45.00 to the cost of a pair of pillar post weatherstrips or a weatherstrip kit. Eliminating them saves a little money when doing a modified or non NCRS type car. Sometimes the extension is reusable and you can get away with buying the 73-82 pillar w/s and butting it up to your old extension.
