Default What to do first.

My uncle passed away last Aug. and he left me his '81 vette. I know he did not drive it much and do not know the last time he did anything to it. What maintenance should I do before I drive it regularly. I have drove it once about 5 miles to go put some gas in it but have not done nothing since. Thanks

make sure it has good brakes, it has to start and stop and roll before you put anything else into it.. then make sure it is safe.. make sure all the lights work.. tires are good, then change the oil and coolant

put a battery in it too....

Change the oil and check all fluid levels. Take it for a short drive, test brakes, make sure tranny shifts smoothly. How old are the tires, is there a DOT code on the sidewall? I'm sure there's a bunch more stuff to check out - the others can chime in on those details.

Post some pics!

Tires, steering and brakes....especially if it has been sitting for a few years. Change fuel filter, accessory belts and radiator hoses before they put you at the side of the road.
