Default Little help needed (Console reassembly)

Is this in the right spot?

I can't remember if the frame sits where it is or under the console, as it is the shifter plate doesn't want to lay right over the heater controls.

TIA.

I don't know why it won't line up but that is correct what you have there

DZ,

You got it in there right; and I think I know why you are having the problem. . . .the J nuts, belong on the tab on the console and not on this retainer. This would hold the retainer up higher than it should be.

That's strange Ernie because I never took those off.

I'll move them though and prove you right once again.

Rick,

When you get the console back together remember how it fits as I may need a memory jogger when the console goes back in the beast.

Get out on the Harley this past weekend?

I'll try Tom but hell I wasn't able to remember after only 2 days how this was.

Had the bike out quite a bit this weekend. Now I need to spend some time cleaning both the bike and the vette.

Rick, another thing I have found through many disassembly/reassembly sessions is that the frame for the heater/A/C controls is flimsy and bends quite easily. I have a terrible time getting the controls to sit straight without any gaps between it and the console plate.

I can't tell you how many times I have had this stuff apart. All my pieces are now aftermarket and it is very difficult to make a good fit. I reinstalled my radio speakers and the radio unit recently and the garage was not a fit place for children.

I almost never do this job all in one afternoon..........

I haven't had a chance to get back to this yet but I will check that out. I hope it's just not lining up because of those j-nuts.

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time but didn't really want to mess with the heater control cables, it always seems like something breaks when I work in cramped areas.

It is going to make a huge difference though.

Hi DZ,
JUST CURIOUS!
I noticed in your picture, that of the 2 vent levers only the passenger's side lever has those 2 little plastic 'guides'. This is the way my 71 was/is too. I always thought the 2 for the driver's side lever just didn't get put on.
Anybody else missing the driver's side lever guides?
I know.... I really DO need to get a life!!!!
Regards,
Alan

The guide (s) to my knowledge were only used on the passengers side. My 70 only has them on this side as well. So. . I checked the AIM and in UPC1 sheet E5, it only shows the guides p/n 3942780 being inserted in the passenger side.

I'll have to check other books to see if this was short lived or not! Now I'm curious.
