i went to replace the black rubber air dam on my '71 and noticed that in the middle are two large bolts that apparently attach to the chrome bumper as well! i tried to torque them off but the whole damn car was shimmying and the bolts didn't move! i was afraid to force them... am i doing something wrong or should i just put more elbow grease into it. those bolts need to get taken off to replace the dam, right? my bunper's not gonna fall off when i unbolt them or anyhting.... RIGHT????
Hi Ed,
When you get the bolts off be careful that you note the washer situation. There's a THICK flat washer that acts as a spacer so you don't crush the fiberglass valance that the spoiler attaches to when you tighten the bolts.
It's easy for them to drop out when you take the bolts out and then you miss them or aren't sure just where they were originally.
Regards,
Alan
thanks guys. Gordon, that's what I'm afraid of. Any way to avoid this is there something to spray on them???? I was thinking maybe i'd just cut the air dam around them but that's so BUBBA.
