Default How do I determine carpet color?

I have a 76 Vette that I want to replace the carpet, but am unsure of the color that goes in it. The metal tag on the door frame CHEVROLET C27 / TRIM I52 / PAINT 22L. Any help will be appreciated!

C27 = build date October 27, 1975
152 = smoked gray leather
22L = bright blue paint

Your carpet should match the interior color if it is a dark color. I think light interior colors had dark carpet, dark steering wheels and dark dash top pads. Do you have any of the original carpet left? If so, check under the sill plates to see what the original color was. If you have deluxe interior, then you should also have carpet on the door panels. You can look under the chrome trim to see the original color as well.

My car is dark brown metallic exterior and dark brown leather interior. When I bought the car, the carpet looked green with just a hint of brown. I didn't know any better and thought that was the original color because the carpet was in good condition. Imagine my surprise when I took off one of the sill plates to discover that my carpet should be dark brown!

New carpet is installed now and it looks much better in the correct color.

Thanks for the information. Especially the paint color. The paint that's on there noe seems to be a royal blue.

I replaced the carpet approx. ten years ago and I think I stored the old carpet sticker some where in the glove compartment. Thanks for jogging my memory. I will search and hopefully find it this weekend.

I was putting in my Dyna matt on and found the original carpet Numbers under the back carpet by the three access panels.

If you have to choose between the light 'Smoke' or dark 'Smoke' carpets, I would recommend the darker color. It will hide dirt and stains better than the lighter color. (Just a thought...)

SEVNT6,
Thanks for the pictures. Your Vette looks great! I take it from your picture that the color of the carpet is dark gray? Is it cut pile or loop? Check this link and see which is correct. Thank you in advance.
