The car is a 72 non numbers matching. It sounds like it had a 4 speed in it at one time. The guy that has it now sounds like he really doesn't know much about cars. He says he has had the car for 10 years and it hasn't been licensed in 7. He is asking $4000.00.
he said he had someone look at the frame and that it is in good shape. The car also had factory Air but its gone. The rear is all cracked up and he said there is a crack in the drivers side fender. The reason for selling is because he is going blind from diabetes.
Non-original hood. Body modifications. Damage to the body panels that are there. Bonding on the fender came off. Rear spring is gone. Engine looks like a mess. Interior doesn't look much better. I'd believe the "frame is in good shape" thing when I saw it for myself, not a second before. If it was me, I would be asking myself "what do I want THIS car for?" If the answer was to fulfull a lifetime dream to save one of these cars from the junkyard AND the frame by some miracle turned out to not be rusty, I might pay the guy $1000 for it. If my answer was anything other than the preceding, or the frame was rusty, I would just walk away.

ouffff,,, basket case,,, its not worth $4000,,its a total rebuild,, and I would bet my shorts the frame or bird cage is gone no matter what his friend says. Assuming the frame and bird cage are ok,, are you willing to give up at least 3 years of all your spare time, tons of cash, and maybe your mariage. try to get it grand and part it out.

I agree.
I'd say you give him a dollar and he signs the title over to you.
The obvious things in the pictures are only 1/4 of what that car will need.
Regards,
Alan
PS: I looked at the pictures again, I think HE gives YOU a dollar and he signs the title over.
If you have a wife I'd be surprised if she lets you store it anywhere she can see it.
Car has no value. Not a salvagable body panel. Eng comp = 0, interior = 0, frame is OK? That's funny. There's probably a handful of parts on there worth $500 max, but not if it costs a dollar to get it to your house, or another dollar to haul away what's left.
As they say in New York.... fa get about it!
Put down the checkbook and slowly back away.
Run forest, run!
I could go on, but you get the point.
If it ran and the frame was good, $2k might be a deal. However, with that much work, you'll have $30k into it by the time it's roadworthy.
It certainly is a shame it will take alot of work to get it looking real nice and running well but to see it just waste away or be parted out (maybe for the best?) would suck imo. I think if he could get it for close to nothing it would be worth it.
Thanks guys for the responses. I am new to the C3's. I don't really know what to look for yet. I knew the car was probably a pile, and would need a lot of work.
It is a shame people let these cars even get close to this kind of shape....
You'd be better off buying a used frame and working up from there. I doubt there would be any really usable parts once the rust has been removed, the rot dried out and the brittle rubber parts disolve in your fingers. Spend $15K on a running car with a good frame under it.
Send the owner this link so he has a clue what he really has.
a lot of people have negitive responses on it but maybe you can get the price lowered or barter for it, it needs a cleanup and some body work ,thats better than the 72 i got for 800 that hit a pole at 80 ,1 year later i was done and was offered 20 grand for the car,i will not sell because driving it is priceless
