Default C3 emblem

Hi, just dropped in on this site to see what's up! I own a blue 1980 vette all original except for the side pipes. I recently aquired some spinners, but I noticed that the flags are backwards? the checker flag is on the left? It's the C3 emblem just reversed? any ideas why?

The checkered flag switched from the right side to the left side when the C4 started.

I have no idea why your's would be backward.

Ok, but the cross-flags on the C4 are straight across without staff, this emblem has the flag staff shown just as in the C3 emblem? I'm originally from Pittsburgh, Pa thanks for the info.

Ok, the emblem on my spinners look just like the 50th anniversary, however the distorted maple leaf is first, then the bow tie. Do I have some generic defect or what on these emblems?

Sounds like you may have some "non-licensed" reproductions. Hard to tell without seeing them.

Or...another thought. Are the emblems under a thick, clear plastic disc? Perhaps when the emblem sticker was stuck on the back...it was not put on backwards...so when you look at it thru the front...you see it as a mirror image. Still...hard to tell without seeing them.

use a photo uploader like photobucket or flicker, then locate the direct link (at their website) for the photo and post it here.

I have the spinners installed on my 1981, I am assuming the emblem you are talking about is the emblem that goes in the center of the spinner. Those are unlicensed after-market emblems, the manufactuere wasn't making them specifically for the corvette.

Corvette Central sells this kit: http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050G.

Eckler's sells these emblems: http://www.ecklers.com/search.asp?ac...searchHistory=.

Do your emblems look like any of these?

Your spinners are aftermarket. The manufacturer probably could not use the Corvette crossed flags emblem on the spinners due to licensing issues with GM.

Are yours maybe custom or "home made"? These are mine - I mounted 82CE wheel caps onto aftermarket spinners...

I see your picture - The spinners for the C-3 Aluminum wheels are "AFTER-Market" as has been said - they are not a licensed approved product. Therefore they can not use the emblem as designed for the C-3 in the exact configuration as Chevy used. You have options as I have pointed out - Eckler's sells those small emblems for the spinners - none of the other big parts houses have them. Many sell the spinners but they don't sell the emblems for them. My spinners sit out from the wheel on aluminum hubs. I bought extra sets of the emblems in case I lost one.
Here are mine:

Hmmmmm since the normal wheel emblem is 2 inches and the Spinners I have found - both straight and swept fin - take emblems that are 1 3/4th, how did you get your emblems to fit? Also replacement wheel emblems are expensive around $36.99 a piece, that's an expensive set-up you have.
My spinners cost around $98.00 a set and the 1 3/4th emblems cost around 13.00 for a set of 4.

If you look at your spinners, your 1 3/4" emblems fit into the center and leave around 1/4" of chrome spinner "boss" visible. The CE emblems I fitted to mine, go right to the edge of the spinner center "boss".

As for cost, I picked up all 4 on eBay for $26.00, still in the GM wrapping

It might be an expensive setup but I think they look pretty smart.

What adhesive did you use? As in all things it's what you like - I am happy with the way mine look.

No adhesive - the CE emblems have two studs on the back of them so I drilled corresponding holes in my spinners and bolted the emblems on. I only went with these as they were so cheap - I like the look but couldn't really justify spending what they're worth...

Thanks for the info, I appreciated the responses and time. These spinners were included on some wheels I bought off a 78. I will keep them just because they are different and to see who actually notices the difference, the owner surely didn't. I am new in owning a corvette 3 years now, but since I was 13 or so in the early 70's my God father had two vettes a 68 and 69, which I became fasinated with. I have several books and magazines, but never had the opportunity to actually own the car because it wasn't practical at the time. Kids are grown and drive their own wheels now, so I can finally enjoy a truely unique ride! I will be posting pictures of my blue beast soon.

With the way business is being conducted nowdays...GM probably outsourced the licensed items, and they are "Made In China"...and the fakes are "Made In U.S.A."!!!!
