Default 78 Tach Not Working

I mistakenly posed this question in another of my thread, hence no replies. So here goes again.

My tach is not moving. One of the wires coming out of the tach filter broke off. Would the filter prevent the tach from moving? I'll buy one of these, and I guess if this doesn't solve it, next will be the pc bd.

Thx for any input.

Broken tach filter won't stop tach from working. Make sure tach is getting power, ground, and signal from dist. then go with new board.

Ggood luck

If the wire on the filter broke loose the tach will stop, this is the inbound signal wire for the tach. You can by-pass by un-hooking the other end and plug the tach wire straight in the distributor. This will tell you if the tach is still working and it should be if all that happened was the wire broke.

The tach filter should have two ends to it, if one of the wires broke at the capacitor sometimes you can strip away some plastic off the wire, insert it in the end of the filter and drop some solder in it. It could repair your filter connection.

If not, we do have these listed in the forum member special section: http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...=tach%20filter

yup...and if the rpm works when by-passing the filter,do not run it too long thinking you don't need a tach filter...Buy a new filter if that one is unrepairable.Cheers!!!

I did this when my wire broke off on the filter a few years ago. It's worked fine ever since.........

Nothing, they are the same part, the listing for the forum special is almost always listed as a different part number so sales will know it is a forum part being purchased.
