Does anyone have a photo of the lower trim piece that needs to be trimmed?
Thanks....
I'd like to see it too. I bought a couple of junk 76' T/T columns off eBay and made one good one. I had no trouble bolting it in to my 71' Vert and didn't modify anything other than to buy a later year hub so I could use the 78' style 14" wheel. Did I miss something?
Here is a pic of a column after it was trimmed. You just have to cut 2.25" (a bit more according to Jim Shea's paper but this worked for me) off the end of the housing, taking care not to cut the wires or the dimmer rod.
I see why mine worked, I used a 76' column and it appears that the column changed in 77'. Guess I got lucky as I did this conversion before Jim's paper.

77 bolts into earlier, remember the groups 68-77 & 78-82. The column change that is the issue was in 78.
If I had bought an earlier model, I would have changed columns in the 70s.
The dash changed in 1978. That is one reason why the 1977 column is a one year only design. It should pretty much bolt right into a 1969-76 without much trouble. This is what I had figured on how you would have to modify the plastic shroud on a 1978-82 column by cutting it off to the indicated dimension.
