While cleaning my car last night I noticed that my new front windshield date coding (that I paid a tidy sum for) is backwards. In other words...if you wanted to read it...you'd have to be inside the car.
I call the company that made the windshield and they are telling me that there was no consistency to this and that some read backwards blah blah blah....my question is - if you are "making" the date coding on a new windshield - why would you purposefully do it backwards?
Number 2....I've looked at at least 3 other cars this morning and they all read from outside the car....is this guy trying to get out of this by thinking im stupid?
Anyone know the skinny on this? Can you guys check your cars and let me know if anyone has similar?
I just ordered a correct dated windshield today, so I'm fresh on this.
Part of the process was that I had to fill out a "logo and date code" worksheet, showing the logo, location dates, etc. Included was information on whether the logo/date was etched on the inside or outside (they said it could be either) and whether the logo reads "in" or "out."
I guessed, like you have, that it should read "out." I went home and checked my original 1969 windshield, and it in fact read "in" just like yours. I thought it was odd and looked at my 1958, and it does the same thing. I provided this to OEM and they said my info was correct.
I just asked the fellow that made the (factory inconsistency) statement another email asking him to site a source that proves this - or maybe send me some pics of original cars with this "inconsistency" - should be an easy thing since it happened so often - right?
Until this company has an oppurtunity to make this right - I won't blast them - but if they are proven wrong - and won't make it right - I will use every means possible to make sure that they don't do this to someone else
