A friend of mine who owns a Chevy Dealership is trying to locate the owner of a specific C3 Corvette from his childhood. He owned it as a young man and is trying to locate it again. What he knows about it now is: Was originally dark green but today it is Daytona Yellow, 427, 390 hp coupe, VIN is 194379S700534. He believes it may be in California. He wants desperately to contact the current owner, I assume to make him an offer he can't refuse!
I realize this is a C3 on a C5 forum but this guy, the owner of the dealership is a good friend to me and to our club. He has sold close to a dozen C5's to our club members and drives over 50 miles to attend our meetings and has always been a huge contributor to our charities. I told him I would try to help him. Can someone help to locate the car and/or the owner?

Yes, and then again, in this economy, who knows? Maybe the current owner would be willing to let it go if the price was right. Can't hurt to ask, I suppose. So long as the searcher is willing to let it go if the current owner rebuffs his advances and doesn't become a PIA about it.
If your friend owns a Chevy dealership, I would guess that he has access to the Chevy repair records for that VIN or he could run a Carfax check. Either approach might help him zero in on the owner or last service/ inspection location.
I tracked down my 69 from my childhood(1983)-found and purchased it in 2005. The sure fire way to locate the car w/ a correct vin# is to find a friendly and sympathetic law enforcement officer to run a multi state vin search. They can do this very easily and many "carguy" cops are happy to help. If the car is still "titled" it will be found. This is how I was able to lay eyes on and purchase my black 69 coupe, the very car I swore I would own when I was 8 years old. Thats the short of a very long story for me, best of luck to your friend, If he owns a dealership I'm sure he knows a couple of cool cops.
addition: I noticed this car on the 1969 registry, Is that your friend who posted the car there? I noticed there was a phone #, the wording in the registry post was a little confusing.......

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
