Default Steering feel

I have a 71 with power steering. It has very poor self centering after turning the wheel. I have had the alignment checked twice, but to no avail. The box has been rebuilt and I have new ball joints and tie rod ends. I have had other c3's but don't remember having steering that was not good. The car will remain in the turning if I let go of the wheel. Has any one had a similar problem and does any one have any suggestions,

The steering box may be adjusted too tight or you may have other mechanical binding in the steering column, box or links that is causing your problem. How is the condition of the flex coupling?

My 81 did the same thing then it started "wandering" alittle Friday night. Got her home and found the "Rag Joint" totally worn out. Replaced over the weekend and SHAZZAM problem fixed.
Its worth a look. Cheap Fix, $65. New coupler Federated Auto Parts
Thanks for all the advice in this forum on repair methods

I've got the same issue with my car. I just rebuilt the front suspension, and sent the box out to Gary (GTR1999) for a rebuild. While I had the car in the air, everything seemed to turn fine, and Gary's work was perfect, so I'm wondering if maybe the power assist is weak. I just ordered a new power steering cylinder, but I'm wondering if maybe the ps pump is weak...is that possible?

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if more ideas come in...

There are many possible causes for this. When I first drove my 81 it had the same problem, a alignment solved that problem for me, the camber was way off. Tire condition, power steering servo not centered properly, and under inflated tires are some more possible causes.

chrome,
You said the box was rebuilt, but by whom and with what new parts? As Gary (GTR999) will tell you, there's rebuilds and there's rebuilds.

My advice is to buy a brand new Borgeson Corvette power box ( integral power ) and one of their new rag joints, a hose kit and a Drag Link Adapter. You use your existing pump but discard all four factory hoses, the power ram and the power valve on the end of the relay rod.

Positive caster is what aids in re-centering the wheel.
