Please Please Help Me Out!!

My advice....look for that 'similar' project car for yourself. Then make it a 'look-alike' for your old car. The difference in the VIN tag won't even matter.
100%.Let's face it, we can talk all day about the "low production" of 1970 Corvettes, and the "one-year only" for the higher compression 454 etc, but the bottom line is that they made damn near 5000 1970 LS5 Corvettes. Mulsanne blue is one of the most common colors for the year, and almost all of those came with bright blue or black interior, so I'm guessing there were literally hundreds of cars made that are essentially identical to the one you dated your wife in. The actual example that you had sounds like it is too far gone to be worth it, someone should turn that into a resto-rod or something else cool because it is done as an example of an "original" car. If you are willing to take on a project, and it sounds like you have the skills to do it, it seems like you can't get very far looking at 1970 Corvettes without tripping over a few Mulsanne Blue big blocks, so finding a car to replace the one you had doesn't strike me as particularly difficult.
I'm sorry the deal didn't turn out the way you wanted though. Best of luck finding the magic again! If you look for it, another one will find you!
This was what I was going to suggest.Good luck. I spotted a few 70 listings on ebay, not a big block but a nice blue vert with some minor mods, looks like NOM, and a coupe.
Good luck, Glenn
