I had my sterring box and rag joint replaced a little while back to clean up my steering and it did that great! My problem is that every since then my steering wheel has been aligned about 40 degrees off center. I have had it looked at by a couple places and they both said that everything under the car is perfect. That I would need to pull the steering wheel and align it then put it back on. Is this hard to do and what would I need for this job. It is a 77 coupe and has tilt steering if that matters for this. I really want this done as it bothers the (*)%$#$ outa me.
Very easy. Pop the horn button off & the st. wh. is attached w/ 6 screws. No st. wh. puller is needed.
OK that was a quick rely and exactly what I wanted to hear! Thanks, when you say pop the horm button off is there an easy way to do that or springs that I need to watch for going everywhere?
I did that to my 77 a year ago. But no one told me to go to a parking lot where you can drive the car in a straight line for a short distance to find where the steering wheel needs to be. Had to redo mine twice and I'm still not happy. It slides onto a spline shaft and you only get so many choices of where it goes. Mine is off by 3 or 4 degrees. Otherwhise not a huge job. God luck.
It was easy enough and you were correct there were only 6 screws. This left a good adjustment range but the problem came in the lock for the telescoping. There is a cutout in the column where the wheel attaches and thats where the slide lock has to be. I had to leave the steering wheel off a about 10 degrees. At least now I know how to do this if I find a wheel I like better to replace with in the future. Also I had to do it twice also since it was not correctly alligned from driving last. Thanks everyone for the advice and help. Happy Fathers day to all...
