i did a nose job on my car back in feb and ended up leaving it flat black because i intend to eventually getting around to do the entier body of the car. anywho, im fixing one of my t tops right now that suffered an accident when i first started driving the car, long story short, it was being towed and someone messed with the t top and didnt lock it in place.. it flew off on the freeway, got scarched and had a decent crack in it.. im fixing the crack right now, and striped the the top down to the glass... there's nothing wrong with the passenger side t top, right now im debating whether strip the passenger side top also and paint both flat black to go with the front bumper, or not touch that one and paint the other one red again...
im also want to get rid of the chrome molding on the t top.. can i take it off with out removing the weather strips?
what do you guys think? flat black top, or just leave it red?
thats a tough one. since your going to get it painted one day i would say it would depend on how long it will be. if painting soon leave it. if later, flat black like the other. thats my story, and i'm sticking to it..
well as of now im going to paint it flat black, i figure i can always change it up later... ill post pics when i get around to it... shirley should get her engine in by early next week the latest so shes going to have a whole new look and attitude..
anybody got anything on the chrome? i might just paint it over along with the t top.. kinda bubba but meh.. i might get an astro top later down the road..
Try when you can to get the whole thing into flat black, I plan to run my next c3 flat black for a long while, other wise with black here and there you will start looking hack job,
Astro tops to be blunt, suck out loud, they are a flimsly POS with a crappy mounting system,
They are good I guess to sell a car that has no top, ( if you dont mind hosing the buyer )

I have a RED Astro Top on my 79, and it doesn't leak, rattle or squeak. While it is true that the mounting system leaves something to be desired and it is like being under a magnifying glass in full sun, it is still quite different and fun....so really can't agree about the Astro Top

I didn't mean to be so snide about it, I apologize to those who dig the Astro top,
But Ohiofossil, Even you seem to damn it thru faint praise,
My judgement comes from, one I had on my 81, a full tilt show car and the top was sub rate, No, it didn't leak, but it scratched easy and was thin and flexi, the trim was poorly applied the mounting system is pretty cheap and cheesy,
I guess the fact they offer all kinds of colors is pretty cool.
Hey 13Bats, my top was made in the very early 80's only very limited production, and doesn't seem at all flimsy, maybe they made them better then...thicker material. I don't know. This is my first vette, only have had it now for 6 weeks, and it came with the top, but I guess I got very lucky, it is in excellent shape and not scratched at all. And the fact that the car set bassically undriven for ten years with the Astro NOT on the car probably helped it as well...it had the original glass tops on, and they are in serious need of gaskets...LOL.
OhioFossil,
Your first vette and you havent had it long speaks volumes,
As you get to know the car better you will see that Astro top is "cheap" compared to the rest of the car, brings it down like putting hub caps on it
I bought mine around 88
Mine was tinted grey smoke and was called "deluxe" yours sure could be nicer and thicker than mine, mine scratched the first time I washed it and when I had it off was thin and flexi cheap.
Truth is you are the only person I have ran into that likes them, perhaps times are changing for them
