As someone in the market for a chrome-bumper, I was interested to see the results for those.
It seems the garden-variety base small-block coupes were in the $15k-$20k range, with the convertible or 350hp versions bringing about $5k more.
Very few base-model big-blocks; from the entries, you'd think every 427 Chevy built came with triple-carbs! Those seem to sell in the $60k-$70k range, though most owners thought they should get more for them. The few base-model BBs were in the $30k range.
I was surprised at the market for the LT-1's; the ones that sold went for about what a base-model big-block would get. The ones that didn't seemed to belong to people who thought they were worth tripower money.
I was surprised that the Apollo 13 coupe sold for under $20k! And while an L88 will sell for $300k, a ZR2 won't for $500k.
I sat there for both days, and was surprised at some of the buys. The second car through on Friday was a '59 driver for $27k that was a steal. However, if you were looking for a chrome bumper car, a nice grey '72 roadster went off at $22k early Friday... the best C3 deal of the day. A couple of very nice SB roadsters, a blue '69 and another grey '72, were no-sales at $27.5k. Coupes were soft, as they have been for awhile.
I was most interested in '69, and noticed almost every car was a restored big block. I just think this type of car has a limited buyer. A few more driveable small blocks would have done well, if offered.
yes, looks like right around 50% sold or met reserve.. some prices were pretty low, but there was probably a good reason for any single individual car to be bid low.. hard to tell condition on TV.. even in HD.
Hi VB,
I'm interested in hearing your comments about BG in general. After following it around for years, I haven't gone to the last two.
What am I missing? Was this the last for 'The Special Collection'?
Regards,
Alan
