When I took the body off of my 71 I had to cut both #4 body mount bolts because the nuts were spinning. I left the cut bolts hang there because I figured I would use them for alingnment when I put the body back on. Now the body is on and I was going to pull the bolts out from the inside of the car. The problem is the bolts are covered by the convertable deck lid springs. How do you take the springs out? Are they going to pop or fly apart if I pull them out?
those springs are a nightmare.. you might want to reconsider pulling the body back off... you will still need to weld a new nut to the cage, so you will need to cut the cage off the frame and reweld, can you do that with the body on? I don't see how...

I'm not sure about convertibles...but I did not reweld a cage nut on the #4 body mounts. I got rid of the rusty cages and used a large bolt and washer. This was done on my 82 coupe.
don't mess with the lid springs. do as rudolph shows, except instead of inserting the bolt from the bottom, put the washers on it and drop it in from the top. cut a slot in the threaded end for a large screw driver and use that to prevent the bolt from rotating when you tighten the nut.
To remove the rear deck lid springs you have to take the tension off of the springs, I did this by inserting some 1/2 wood dowels between the coils in 3 or 4 different spaces, this can be done easily with the deck lid closed. the body mount nuts also spun on my car because the cages were rusted out. if you want to do it right purchase new nut and cage assemblys, remove the body mount reinforcements and rivet them back in. to make it easy I also removed the deck lid and hinges.
