replace thermostat
I have to replace the thermostat on my '79. How much anti-freeze am I going to lose and what can I do to prevent in from going all over the place when I pull the upper radiator hose off the thermostat?

1) Just drain the radiator, 2) replace the thermostat, 3) refill the radiator (properly) with the drained antifreeze (assuming it's still good) and you're good to go....loss of fluid = 0
