Default Dual Quads

Has anyone put the Edelbrock dual quads on a 78 Vette. I'm wondering what I'm getting myself into & what problems I will probably run into. Thanks

Why? Is it a stock engine? If so, there's no way in he!! that engine can make use of that amount of fuel. Now, if you've beefed that puppy up with a big block or massive heads, cam and headers, just cut a hole in the hood and mount 'em up.

Are you planning to put dual quads on a stock 78 engine? That would be a waste of time and money. You need a seriously modified engine to justify dual 4-barrel carbs.

I have Edelbrock dual quads on my '73 SB. Other than the bling factor there is no need to do it.

It would interesting to know how the 1960s 283s worked with dual-quads compared to the modern offerings.

I've got dual quads on top of ZZ4 in my '65. I added for BLING as 2 500 CFM or 1000 CFM is way more ZZ4 can handle 600-650 CFM is probably max. BUT like I said I added for BLING -- WOW factor

I have linkage set that 2nd carb barely kicks in and seldom used.

The factory two four barrel set up from the 60's model corvettes were carter WCFB's. The flow rate was smaller than edelbrock's current setup. That being said the camshaft was a different grind than the base model motor and the heads were bigger valved than the base model motor as well. In this day and age with the advent of modern performance heads and camshafts and headers and ignition, you can make edelbrocks setup work. However that being said a single four barrel and the right tuning and cam etc will offer the same or even better performance. I think the only reason anybody does the dual four setup today is for the bling of having them. And with the fuel injection setups getting cheaper they may be better than a single four or dual fours.

I couldn't get ONE Edelbrock to run right. Can only imagine trying TWO.

For Paul74....
The 1956-61 dual quad set-up on Chevy/Corvette 283's was more of a marketing ploy than "necessary". 'Souping-up' a V8 engine was the cool thing, man. More carbs were better! But that engine had a fairly radical cam and the hi-performance heads....and those quads were little 'ol WCFB's, not big Holleys or Q-jets.
