Default 74 Weekend Makeover w/pics

After a few years, finally gathered up the pieces and a few hours to make a major change...
Before-time to say goodbye to the Weld's and Patriots

I ordered the Magnaflow 2.5" system from Corvette Central, other than a slight massage to one of the pipe ends,it installed and fits with no issues, however the clamps could be of better quality, and I had to borrow a couple of 2.25" clamps for the tips on the mufflers.

Yeah,I know this car needs a major underside cleaning and detailing, maybe this winter.

Just a little more adjusting and tightening to go

Of course as soon as you start one project, other issues crop up!The trans mount was separated and needed to be replaced, also the exhaust bracket on the back of the trans was for a 2" system.I took care of that by slotting the holes and a bit of grinding on the bracket to move it up about a .25" or so.While its out, better clean and paint the x-member as well.

Black Rally Rims_NO WAY! Time for a scuff and a coat of paint

Almost there!

Time for a test drive!

These Magnaflows are surprising quiet,I was expecting a bit more noise, but can live with the mellow muted sound,it does make for a more relaxed highway ride.Overall I like the look and sound and would recommend this kit to anyone looking for a stock style exhaust.Next up,installing a Dynomax cat back system on the wife's Mustang!

Good work! By the way, I have a question about your repairing method - are you doing all the underside jobs with the help of those frame holder tripods? I recently got the same idea that perhaps I should buy those and then I could do a lot more in my own garage. Do you think you could disassemble the rear axle and reach the differential carrier like that?

frame holder tripods = Jack stands...I was going to make a Canadian joke, but then realized Speedbird is in Estonia...

Hi S1229,
I use 'jack stands' all the time. I suggest you get the highest weight rating as you can. Even though your car isn't very heavy the higher rated stands have a wider base and thus make the car more steady. You can still knock the car off the stands if you really get to pulling on it. When I'm working under the car for a while I take the wheels off and put them under the corners. If I knock the car off my wife isn't strong enough to lift it off.
Regards,
Alan
