Default Boring to bling... (Pics)

Just wanted to share...
Did some work under the hood. Got rid of the crate motor valve cover and air cleaner lid and put chrome ones. I like the near stock look better.

If I ever have to put in a crate motor in, I would want it to appear as stock as possible

I was afraid "bling" was going to mean speed-shop hot roddy chrome everything... however, this is MUCH better.

So it was reduced from a 502 to a 427?

Vettebuyer, I was wondering the same thing. I can see it now, "yeah, its just a stock 427"

The long term goal is to pull out the 502 and put a rebuilt 427 in it and also change the L88 hood and put a big block hood.
That's real long term... After 5+ years. By that time it will be worth doing all of that to a NOM 69.

In the short term, I am planning to do the following...
* Put the smog pump back on
* Take out the chrome breather and route it through the air cleaner base
* Put the distributor cover back on
* Change the blue spark plug wires

Much better, but I dont think your distributor cover will fit over the HEI. Just go to a standard black cap and wires...

Ah no..
I love the chrome distributor cover look.
I may have to customize it a bit to make it work. I am gonna try tho.

I am also having trouble installing a stock breather. The breather pipe on the stock air cleaner base is hitting the carb. I may have to cut another hole in the air cleaner base and re-route the breather.

Hi R,
The compartment looks GREAT!
Regards,
Alan

PS: Your breather/air cleaner interference occurs on some S/B engines too, with some Holley carbs.

Are you hooked on that fuel filter? one of those came apart on me on my 350 she just died.I looked under neath glass filter all was gone just broke apart and the glass covering the filter was in one piece the metal broke that holds the filter together.Filters are good but Im shy of the glass ones.

Another local forum member came over to my place this weekend to help me with my car. He warned me about the potential hazard of the glass breaking.

What did you change it with after it broke?
I am thinking of getting a Holley metal filter.
