this is why i love stuff like this i already have alot of idea that i now have a pic to work from.

i was thinking of doing some repainting in the engine bay at least the top of the firewall.

i think im going to do my engine bay in a satin black to make the chrome pieces stand out more. the car will be repainted back to factory 914 metallic silver in the next winter or 2 so i think the black will highlight it pretty well.

i think the chrome on silver is kinda a wash for color schemes. if i was going to color paint my engine bay i would prob go with black chrome just for something different

to properly clean the ac condensor housing i want to fix the cracking in the fiberglass. is it possible to remove it with the engine still in the car?

I like your choice on the valve covers. The painted look is great!
In my case, I was forced to remove the body due to rust issues.
The bonus to removing the body was the ease of access to the engine bay.
I was able to access the firewall and inner fenders to repaint, address the wire loom issues and rework the vacuum lines with relative ease.

I'm not suggesting you remove the body, but you may find it easier to achieve the look you're after if you pull the motor.

Here is the before and after:

yea im just trying to clean it up as much as possible since i will not be repainting for prob a year due to prices of a professional paint job. i figure if i can do every where i can reach and maybe pull the engine over the winter for a full engine bay detail I should be a step ahead of the game with the detail work.

today i ripped the belts out the fan pully and the fan to clean up and on tuesday im going to pick up a box of 50 correct style spade connectors to start to do the wire tuck.

ok so yesterday i spent about 6 hours working on the car and got some stuff acomplished. I had to use the wipers on sunday so i figured i would work on the wiper area yesterday.

before

some after shots

after stripping and repainted the pieces i resealed every thing with new silicone to replace the 36 year old rock hard stuff that turns to dust when i touch it. only thing Im waiting for is the wiper motor firewall seal that turned to dust when i removed the wiper motor

also freshened up the fan and the water pump pully when i did the belts

Just curious, are you doing business with John at Lowmotion Corvette? Stopped at his place 5 or 6 years ago while visiting my son, who attended the Culinary Institute. John tried to talk me out of buying a big block, but I didn't listen. Guess that was because he didn't have one for sale. Good luck on your project(s) and have fun. I am.

I found that lomotion didnt really strike me as a very friendly place as they treated me like a waste of time when i went in to look at a car i had enough money in my pocket to buy so i decided i would not deal with them.

i have spoken to the corvette shop across the river. they did the body and paint for the frankensport car. nice guys over there and they know there stuff

as far as covering the area with brushed alum i had thought of that as i have several sheets of 18 gauge brushed stainless sheets i could use but i think i will body color paint the area silver to match the car when its repainted

nice bay, but i will be the first to admidt im a detail driven person and the t handles not being uniform are the first thing i noticed. it was the main reason i decided to stay away from them but i love the color scheme.

i think chrome is so over done on everything nowadays so im avoiding it but in your bay it really accents the filter cover and the valve covers nicely.

is it a standard chevy orange or no? it looks like it has a more red color to it

I wish that i could pull the motor and really do the job right but for now i have to halfass it and i think its what is bugging me the most about this clean up.

Hi 73,
Did you think about repainting the wiper well before you put that good looking wiper mechanism back in? Or are you maybe planning for a cover for it?
Nice Progress.
Regards,
Alan
