This might sound a bit unusual - I want to see if I'm alone on this.
The wife and I were talking over dinner tonight and realized we haven't driven the vette for about 6 weeks! It's not our daily driver and we seem to come up with a lot of excuses not to drive it unique to Florida -too hot, afternoon thunderstorms, etc. The A/C works fine on our '81 - T-tops don't leak... it appears we don't like driving it in the Florida summer!
Alan,
Don't feel bad about it. So you don't drive in the summer you have the rest of the year right. I live in New York and I only have a short window for my 76 and only a 110 miles this year.
buffaloc3... I don't like driving with the tops on - anybody else feel the same???
...Alan K.
Yes! Tops off pretty much exclusively. Cruisin' the back roads in the cool of the evening in the summer, usually. In the Fall, it'll be any time.
I've even had to run the heater for my wife a couple of times here in Kentucky in July and early August. Go figure. Like a friend said: "This global warming is freezing my rear off."

Driving it with the tops on is not an option.
Is that weird?
Thanks for reading! ...Alan K.
Our '82 is Black, with Dark Red leather and see-through glass T-tops, and although the A/C works like any C3, we have found that we rarely drive it now that we live in central Floriduh:
October-through May, though, can't be beat!!!!!
i can relate, my 72 vert is a spring/fall car in san antonio.
during the 100+ degree temp of the summer i dont have ac either so once the temps would hit about 90 i would pull her in the garage and take the new car with the air.
North Carolina June thru July terribly hot and humid - when I do drive during these times the T-tops are on to prevent sunburn. I do turn the AC on in my '75 but it only cools the feet. Best months are Oct-April. January is iffy - we might get 1/2 inch of white stuff.
In FLA? I wouldn't think that is silly. I always said with my old car, that July and August were not the best months for the car, it's too hot, and this is in NJ. I feel the same way with this one. In fact, I have been dragging my feet on the latest carburetor fiasco because it has been too hot to really enjoy the car, so there has been no fire under my **** to get it done. When September gets here, things will be different. I love October with the car here, but it starts getting dark by the time I get home from work, so it is usually a weekend thing. I almost always get it out a few times in November, and maybe even a lucky "warm" day in December. Jan/Feb/March are pretty much certain to be zero mile months. If I lived in south FLA, I'll bet Oct-May would be my main driving months.
Just goes to show you a C3 can be a very difficult car to use as a daily driver - my hat's off to those of you who can do it!!
I drove the vette this afternoon - even though it was 92 outside!!! Went to the tag agency to avoid paying the steep increase in registration fees here in FL. Ran great - even got a from a C6 driver (wow- that's a first!).
Got home and the voltage was showing below 13 at idle. Got my meter out - it was 12.70 volts. Turned off the A/C (yes - I run A/C with my tops off - call Al Gore!) and voltage went up to 13.56. Ya'll think I may have an alternator problem?
Thanks for all of your responses - I don't feel as guilty as I did yesterday!
I live in a above 90* 6 months a year, 100*+ for few weeks in a row, and I'm using my big block with A/C as a semi-daily driver, and to get things a little worst, its a fully matching numbers '71 .
Of course the Dewitt's rad. and a dual puller spals and another 16 in. pusher on the condenser are keeping temps well under controlled.

If we cared what Al Gore said, we wouldn't own an old car in the first place!
It can get pretty hot and humid here in VA too in the summer, but it's never too hot once the sun has set. I love driving mine all summer long. In fact, I haven't been motivated enough to charge the A/C in mine, even though the compressor works fine. I also HATE driving mine with the tops on in the summer. Granted, it would not make a good going out to a nice dinner car, since the A/C doesnt' work.
My car sets in the garage and is rarely driven during the FL summer. The tops never come off, even when driven. As already posted, Oct through May are the best months for cruising. That's eight months and not bad considering the northern alternative.

I'm especially fond of making wide-open-throttle passes in my 1-MPG, open-header, leaded-fuel Z28 at the drag-strip, endangering the hairy-chested nut-scratcher

It appears you were out making passes when the picture was taken. The D/A must have been good that day for making power in the Z car LOL. Hey-now....your Blackdog82 Vette is now a greyhound with the hot cam, Air Gap, Holly combo. **** off the pinheads and suprise those in doubt with 13 second passes in a crossfire no-more!
