Hey everyone. My C3 needed the carb clean. So my dad and I wanted to rebulid it. So we got the rebuild kit and started to clean it and well the previous owner swap it and this one is crap. Getting vacumm leaks and I just rather get new parts. Tired of this rebuild parts. I was wondering what's a good carb to get? I'm not looking in performance. I was but I love this car and knowing me I'll do something stupid. Lol
The first mistake people make is thinking putting a kit in a carburetor is rebuilding it. Not so. There are many things done during the remanufacturing process that the normal mechanic has no idea happens.
The second mistake are mechanics that have put a few kits in different carbs that fixed the problem and think they are carburetor gurus
#3 is buying from a company that does mass rebuilds. Most disassemble the carbs in quantity, sort into batches of individual parts, clean them, and reassemble without knowing what parts actually go with what carb number. A metering rod is a metering rod to these businesses. No need to pay any attention to the numbers stamped on them, and understand why they are paired with certain jets.
If you would like, I can PM the number to my brothers carburetor company here in Oklahoma City. He has been in the carburetor remanufacturing business for over 40 years. He knows his stuff. You can rest assured that if you buy a carburetor for a 1979 Corvette 350 automatic, you will get the proper carb for that application.

When I started reading this, I knew that there must be a motive.
BINGO, I was right.

No motive.
I was in the business (family owned) for almost 25 years. Around 1996, I saw the handwriting on the wall that the remanufactured carburetor market wasn't long for this world. At least enough to keep 3 grown men and their families living comfortably.
I don't even know if my brother will be interested in selling something through the mail. Been that route before, and it is really more trouble than it is worth for a company the size of his. It's very easy to step outside his front door and take a look at the problem a customer is having. Kind of hard to troubleshoot over the phone, especially when you're dealing with someone that may or may not be mechanically literate. It's about like trying to troubleshoot something in an internet forum.
I do know he won't mind speaking with the OP to help him get to the bottom of his problems.
I can't see a problem with someone on the Forum offering services for which the poster is requesting help. It's not like he started a thread to make a 'pitch' for his brother's company. It's just another possible avenue for the poster to investigate. Acutally, with Lars no longer working on Q-jets, it's nice to know of another source for rebuilt carbs.

Thank you. I'm just trying to help. I mostly hang out in the C4 section, as that's what I own, but I do drop in here to see what's going on(and I will have a steel bumper one day). If a subject comes up that I can put in my two knowledgeable cents in, I do.
The OP didn't really give us too much to go on to try and help with his problem, just wanting another carb. I think if he's wanting to go back to a stock carb, he might be shocked to find out what a new one actually goes for.
Thanks All. Well turns out my dad has three tuned port motors laying around and said we could swap it in. Lol I wasn't going on proformance but what the hell!! Got my brother to get me all the wires. Never done this but I'm going to learn. Looks like my baby will be in the shop for a few months.
