Western Village RV Park. Been there several times. Not far at all. 4-5 miles.
Down by Gate 7 you can also camp in some peoples back yards. Last year I asked someone how much?, said OK and then they soaked me $10.00 extra a night for my trailer.
the campground is nice cause you can run your AIR CONDITIONER.
the closest I'll get to an AC is putting the flap down on my tent...haha, I'm not too worried about that! I definatly don't want ay parts of people's back yards, I'll take a camp site! Thanks, Neal
I see on the map from the website that there is camping near gate 3. I just can't seem to find anymore information than that. Unfortunatly the map only shows a letter "c", and no more information. It's not a great map. ( http://www.carlisleevents.com/ce/pdf...ptions-Map.pdf ) -Neal
We tried camping at Western Village four years ago, unfortunately on a weekend where it poured rain both Fri and Sat nights. Our small backpacker tent (not much room in the back of a C2 convertible) was easy to relocate under the covered picnic area we were next to, but an unfriendly park enforcer tried to argue us away from the shelter with a lame "if we let you do it we'll have to let everyone do it" excuse (not as politely put as that either.)
This will be our 7th consecutive weekend together at Carlisle, and this year we're going to give camping and Western Village one more try. Their pool is nice and fingers are crossed for better weather. It's also a practice run for a much bigger 3 week Corvette-camping roadtrip we're taking to the southwest this fall.
Our past few years we've stayed at a basic hotel more reasonably priced and conveniently located (closest hotel to the fairgrounds and right next to a decent Mexican restaurant.) Regrettably last year was our final stay at that place because their accomodations included bed bugs that got at us pretty bad. I had bites all over and it was really gross. Wanted to burn all our luggage afterwards in fact, as the infestation could easily have been brought into the car, and home. What's more, this hotel provides no room maintenance during the weekend, citing some oddball case where a customer claimed room staff stole items. In itself that wouldn't bother me but all the rest of the time it's obviously run (down) at lowest slumlord standards, too bad because as I say it was convenient and affordable.
We'll try camping again, instead. I'll take outdoor "critter bugs" and our own sleeping equipment any day over an infested, overpriced hotel anyday. Look forward to the evening social time at the campground too!
