the wheel looks just like the one on a 67 but 67 or 68 wheels one should be rougher then the other. but I always forget which is which. but over 40 years the one that is suppose to be rough has wore off anyhow. or at least that is what s high up NCRS judge once told me
I bet the '68 wheel was rough. I had a '65 and it was smooth as glass. Looked like the swirl design in a bowling ball.
The carburetor is corvette only where other years they would be for camaros and chevelles as well as corvettes.
good point! the carb on my l36 is worth around 1500 bucks.....don't believe me look around and you'll see a decent core that needs restored sells for around 900 bucks.

Not true about other year carburetors being shared with Camaros etc.
At least through '73 each engine had it's own specific model number.
Mine is a 7042217 and it runs around $1400-$1500 restored if you can find one.

What he said is true. For my 68 427/390hp 4sp there is only ONE carb which is 7028207 FG.
it was only put on a 68 427/390hp 4sp....NO OTHER CAR PERIOD.
where as the same engine option in 69 the carb was coded 7029215 which was used on other gm muscle cars like camaros, chevelles..68 was the ony year I know of to be that specfic on the carb.
Not sure if anyone mentioned that early 68s have different size headlight assemblies than later 68 and up cars.
I don't recall the actual difference now, but I seem to remember that the early 68 headlight assembly (the headlight door that raises up) was bigger on early cars.
I think it was changed later in 68 to make the headlight opening smaller because of cracking between the headlight opening and the hood opening.

How is vacuum canister for wiper door different from early '69? Same with front bumper?

I'm not being a smart ***,but I don't play numbers.I have just had numerous 68s.I don't know when the cut off was,but the canisters are 68 only, and maybe,a few carried over to the real early 69s.The same w/the front bumper. The 68s have the rounded notches, and non of the 69s I have had have had them, and some were early run 69s.
I KNOW you know your stuff.I do cars, and parts. You know dates, and numbers,so they could very well have carried over into the first runs of the 69s.

The early run 68s were actually a little smaller than the later run of the 68 models, and these continued onto 82.

That is correct as I understand it. I've read in a couple of sources that the '68 headlight doors/openings actually changed twice before the standard size was adopted. My AIM is from about May '68 and shows at least one running change prior to that.
The number of screws holding them on...halo's were wider to facilitate access to the screws. I beleive the shape was different also(square in 68)And yes they might have made a few 69's with the leftovers(till Nov 68 I believe), but I've always seen them advertised as 68 only, and they have a nice price tag to go with them.(yep....I broke one).
Are you asking because you don't know, or just to see if I know?
Maybe we should start a "what might have carried over to very early '69's" thread.
