Exhaust sound is a very personal taste. Some like it others don't. I wanted the 40s on mine but the guy welding up the system talked me out of them. He said they are way to loud on a Vette. The Vette has no tail pipes so they are louder than say on a Camaro or Mustang. I went with Delta Flow 50s on mine. Loud enough to hear from a distance but they don't set off every car alarm in the area. Try to listen to as many systems as you can.
I do believe if you go to Flowmasters website you can play videos of their different mufflers. I have 50's on my 78 and a friend has 40's on his 80. His is some what louder but still can have a conversation in his cabin talking normally

Those videos are useless because the sound will be different on a Vette with the mufflers in the very rear... The only way to know what a muffler will sound like is by finding another Vette with that same muffler but keep in mind even that can change depending on the pipes and entire system such a crossover or H pipe, size of pipe, motor including cam and compresion and the list goes on and on.... With thate being said, I have the Flowmaster Super 44's and I hate them.. They sound like tin cans when its cold and there is no deep tone at all, even after it warms up and its mainly due to the location.. I contacted Flowmaster about it and all they said is "what did you expect, your mufflers are in the rear and you dont have any pipes after the muffler".. I am personally looking for the loudest and deepest tone I can find. Here is a sound clip of the FM Super 44's on my Vette

Thanks, if you don't like the 44's, what will you then go for?
I'm thinking about the Cherry Bomb Vortex but I dont know if they are loud enough.. Here's a video of the Vortex's but its hard to judge from inside their garage.
