Not to hijack the thread but question is relevant:
Jim, I just bought a 71 and am doing a lot of work to convert it into a 69 L-88,etc. It has only 83,000 miles excellent shape, weel taken car of. However, what concerns me is the 40 year old wiring and internal parts:
1) should I be concerned
2) Is there a kit out there to rebuild the internal parts to include the wiring?
Thanks
Kevin
Glad to hear everything's OK. After you get it all straightened out, don't forget to shampoo the seats!!!!!! I had a similar incident when the brakes gave out on an old MG Midget and I went through the back wall of the garage and out into the backyard. Man, what a rush!

VSTOL,
Standard (non-adjustable) column or T&T? The older columns (69 through 76) had die cast housings so they are more durable than the later plastic ones. The mostly plastic parts are in the turn signal switch. So if you are looking to just replace old plastic parts you might consider replacing the switch. (Both the T&T switch and the standard column switches are available.) Then you have the plastic cancelling cam and the plastic c-clip retainer.
Thanks Jim, its a tilt column and since I'am gutting the wiring in the car and replacing it, I thought I would look into the feasibility of doing the column.
