Are you for real????

That is the most bubba fix ever. If you want it done right, you need to use fiberglass resin and matt. I can't believe you actually offered this advice to him.

That is the most bubba fix ever - that is not the proper way to repair fiberglass damage. If you want it done right, you need to use fiberglass resin and matt. I can't believe you actually offered this advice to him.

Here is the web site of a guy I know that is parting out a '74. Good guy and does nice work on Vettes and other cars.
Most of this '74 is gone now. I was at his place 2 weeks ago and the left fender was still there.
If you can work out a deal with him, I'd be happy to pick it up and ship it to you.

You are wrong. Our C3's were created in the way I described, not with fiberglass resin and mat. The panels were joined with adhesive on a bonding strip from behind the panel, and then body filler was used to finish the joint from the outside...not resin and mat.

The OP was obviously looking for a low-cost solution and I offered one. Believe it. I suggest that unless you are offering him an equally valid solution, that you remain quiet.

No disrespect, but he is correct in describing the method to make a correct repair. On my '68, I spent several long hours undoing the type of repair you described, correcting the mistakes, and doing it the right way.

I will disagree with him on one point -- it's not the most Bubba fix ever... I have every reason to believe the worst was some of what I found.

I will submit that both are methods to make a repair. I don't expect that there is consensus on the meaning of "correct repair", short of replacing an entire panel...and bonding the new panel on to bonding strips. This would undoubtedly be correct (a la NCRS), and would not involve fiberglass resin and mat.

I would further suspect that your repair goals and budget were different than the OP's.

fibered filler (bondoglass, tiger hair)
,

Believe it or not, the stuff referenced above is resin and chopped glass strands and thickeners, prepackaged in a mix. Same crap as mat and resin, only with shorter strands and without the temporary binders.

Amost anything can be used as a permanent or temporary backing, and considering the op is asking for donations and still in high school, and without time or extra money, it's really not that bad of a fix, at least for now, especially if he takes care in doing it.

Not everyone is in a position or desires to rebuild as good or better than new.

The fender shown below is the left side and it does have cracks as seen in the pics., but it looks a whole lot better than the pictures that were posted earlier in this thread. I think the pictures were of what you need. Look at these two pics and let me know what you think. If you are interested in the fender piece I can cut it off and send it to you after you send me a m.o. for shipping.

Please look at the pictures closely and let me know. I don't want to cut the piece off if you are unsure if you want to repair the fender with this piece. If you think you want it I will cut it off and send you more pictures before you pay for shipping but I will not be responbile for the condition of the piece after it gets to you or the cost of shipping.

Just wanted to get that out in the open before there was any misunderstanding.

That is about as generous as it gets.
Wills670 I take my hat off to you.
Jordan, I would have a money order in the mail tomorrow.
Even as a novice you should be able to make something of that fender.

I have PM'd you, and thank you very much.
"That is about as generous as it gets." I agree, it's good to know that there are still people out there that are very generous.
