i want to replace the radio in my 1982 .i would like for it to go in with out cutting the dash .have 200 watts of power and work with a mp3 player.is there such a radio?
Cant answer your question about installing into dash without cutting but did you ever consider mounting a unit behind the passengers side seat in the compartment useing a remote control .

One of the benefits of the '82 is Chevrolet had switched the radios to standard corporate size in 1977. This makes replacing the radio a lot easier as there are a wide variety of them now available from all the other GM's made in that era. Starting in '77 dealers could add Cassette or even CB radios to your Corvette just by swapping out the one it came with.
I realize that doesn't specifically address your quest, however there are a number of companies now that will take an original radio and convert it to digital as well as add inputs for MP3 players and the like. They aren't cheap, but it will preserve the look and functionality of the original radio at the same time giving you much more modern performance.
There have been a few threads recently on the C1/C2 Forum that specifically talked about a few of the vendors that do this. If you do a search, you should be able to find them.
Here is just one of the companies that offer this service. I am not familiar with them, but it can give you an idea of what is now available for original style radios. Antique Automobile Radio, Inc. of Palm Harbor, Florida http://www.radiosforoldcars.com/
I understand your reluctance on cutting the original gauge cluster bezel, don't do it. I found a non GM on the dreaded EBAY for $40. Installed a Kenwood mp238 and a small Sony 4 channel amp behind the pass. seat between the jack storage area and the removeable tray. Four Sony speakers from WalMart. I know this is not a top of the line stereo set up and I could have gotten better components but it will blow you out with the tops off at highway speeds. Modern Kenwood gives you a built in equalizer and option of CD play. I do seem to use the Sansa MP3 the most though. Good luck. mds...

Buy a new bezel and save the old one. This way you can enjoy the car without sacraficing value.

1979 Vette. The previous owner had placed an Alpine AM/FM/Cassette unit in the dash and an equalizer in the console where the ash tray once was.
Since the console had already been cut and the woodgrain kit placed on the console area, I went ahead and cut the radio hole to make a single-wide DIN AM/FM/CD/MP3 player to fit. Since I was going with a really nice system, the hole that was left when the antiquated equalizer was removed became a power plate for my radar detector and Garmin GPS unit. A red flashing LED informs thieves that a burglar alarm system is onboard and operational; an USB port is placed for easy access to plugging in USBs. The iPod connector is in the glove compartment, along with the ZOOMBAK GPS Unit.
I think my setup is very tasteful and not as antiquated looking as it once was.

american raven.i also have wood on my dash .that was one of my reasons for not cutting it .the easy thing to do would be to cut the dash and put any thing in .anything is better than what i got .the fm sounds like am with a bad antenna.
Is it the original radio for an 82? I am looking for one to restore my 82 to all original? Does it work and how much do you want for it? Please post pix.
