Default Crate Motor Help......Please-----Long Post

I just ordered a new crate motor from Pace performance. It's a 350/300HP long block with intake manifold. I am going to be installing this motor in the spring and am wondering what to do to it until then? How do I keep it from rusting during the winter months, it will be stored outside in a wooden shed.
Should I put WD-40 on the exhaust surface to keep them from rusting and should I spray WD-40 or Sea Foam into each spark plug hole? Is there anything else anyone can think of to keep it safe? It has taken me 4 years to get enough money to buy this motor and I do not want any problems. Thanks to all for nay help.

WD40 will not get the job done, Get some K9 or other good rust inhibitor from a boat supply or the like. I would stuff the exhaust ports with oiled rags. Make sure all surfaces are painted or oiled and then wrap the motor in double heavy plastic bags. Put some bounce sheets in there too, that will discourage the mice. Check on it often

What would concern me is are these engines broken in?
I would hate to put something in the cylinders so slick the rings take forever to seat,
WD40 gets sticky over time...I hate it!

Bag it and put something inside the bag to absorb any moisture.

Is there a warranty included with that engine? Wouldn't storing it just cut into the warranty period if so? Just a thought.

Yes, ity does have a warranty, but I am not storing it that long. I had the money to buy the motor 3 times before and something else went wrong, well pump burned out, hot water heater ruptured and daughter went to college. I am not taking any more chances. Thanks for the replys. I am just going to squirt some motor oil into each cylinder and wrap it up good in some plactic with a light bulb burning inside the plastic cover.

Just remember PRIOR to atempting to start to turn the engine turn it over with rags held over the spark plug holes by a buddy to remove ALL the oil or you will get a hydraulic action that could damage the engine.

Ive always heard that transmission oil is one of the best ways to store things like this. A guy I know that is an awesome carb man uses transmission oil for everything like this.
