Just replaced the Key Warning Buzzer in the steering column with my buddy Dean, but the buzz still continues even after the key is removed from the ignition. It eventually times out after a couple minutes. Could it be the Buzzer Module which plugs into the Fuse Panel or maybe something else, such as door switches? Anyone know a source for the Fuse Panel Buzz Module? Thx in advance.
I don't know about '78 but the key warning buzzer for my '72 is plugged into the main dash wiring harness between the speedometer and tachometer.
I went to replace mine because it was making strange noises. Sometimes loud, sometimes soft. When I took the upper dash pad off I found one of the connector blades partially plugged in. I fixed the connection and haven't had a problem with it since.
Besides, I tried the replacement buzzer and didn't like the way it sounded. Higher pitch and not as loud.
I had to buy one off of eBay a couple years ago for my 78' as I could not find a new one. The other thing to check is the small switch on the ignition switch. They have been known to go bad and won't open when the key is removed.
Hello,
It could be that the ignition switch has a short.
I replaced my horn relay in my 1970 a couple of years ago
which powers the buzzer. When I pull the key out it will occasionally
buzz after the fact. This leads me to believe that I may need to replace
the ignition switch. Wish I could be of more help.
