Default A simple "nut" was the solution...worth reading

Well, many of you know of my recently rebuilt 350 that was stroked to a 383. I was quite frankly expecting more power from it than I had after all the work and $ I'd put into it. Well, last weekend I got in to take it for a spin a noticed a nut on the driver's side floor. Everything seemed to work as normal, so I went on my way thinking "I'll look into that later". Not having the time until yesterday, I grabbed the spot light off the wall and started looking under the dash. Hmmm, that looks good, wait! Right there! On the Gas pedal linkage! A bolt without a nut on it! I was able to move the gas pedal forward(play) about 2-3 whole inches! Held the pedal forward and tightened everything down. Man! It looks like I've got another 2" of gas pedal. But, when I fired it up.....
It's a whole different car! There's my power! I've been running my first 500 miles with maybe 50% of a throttle!(wife thinks it was an omen and would have blown it up had I had all my throttle the first 500 miles). Took it up the road, whew, wow, holy she-ite! That's what 400+ HP feels like!
Well, the story gets better. Two Saturday nights ago, the wife and I are coming home from a crab feast in the Vette of old. We turn onto a private road to our house which has about a 3/4 mile stretch, and behind me is a 69 Camaro. Once we're off the public roads he gets along side and we go. He blew me away....then! Yesterday afternoon, same guy, in his "other" car; a 55 Chevy 572 with 600HP. My wife looks at me and says, "he'll beat you in that for sure". "I"m sure, it's a $13k 600HP 572 crate" I replied. So, we round the corner, onto the private roadway and dump it in. Took him awhile to get around me. We were up to about 125 or so when we slowed for the corner. He pulls over, and he's white as a ghost! I pulled along side of him; "what's wrong?". "I think I just blew it up" he said "I lost oil pressure at 6000RPM". So I pulled over and the wife and I got out. He had to take that $13k motor up to 6000 RPM to pass me! First thing out of his mouth was: "is that how you ran it that night against my Camaro?" he asked. "No, because I only had 1/2 of my throttle then"(smiling).
Turns out, at 6000RPM, his high volume oil pump emptied out his oil pan! He let it sit a few minutes and fired it back up. He thinks it;s O.K.
Boy am I glad I looked into where that nut went. This car is wicked fast now! Even the wife wouldn't stop talking about it last night, and man was that fun!
If a nut ever suddenly appears on the floor of you car, look into it!

First thing I check for any induction operation...make sure looking under the hood and floor the gas pedal so check what's happening, a very easy thing to mess up.....

don't ask how I know this, ummmm?

That's why I posted this. I'm sure somebady ran into this before. I guess I just got used to the weak pedal and was accepting it. I can't say how pleased I am now with this car! It's a bit scary to be honest! This car(as my brother used to say) will "s_ _t and git!"
I don't "race" per say. This particular person is a known "mouth" around this area and at some shows. He's got a ton of $$ in that 55 and it's won many "Best in Shows". But I sure gave him a run for his money, that's for sure! He'll think twice next time he's in that Camaro too.

I found a pin lying on my floormat. It held the brake pedal together. You definitely want to pay attention to that too.

So now you have an idea of what a 383 runs like. Sounds good.
A guy w/ a 383 surprised Norval also.

Sent a little chill up my spine thinking about the noise those 2 motors were making. I'd pay for a round of beers to see the smile on your wife's face when you pulled him till 125.

Me too! I wasn't looking though. But I can tell you, she's used to her Miata, while it's no sloutch on a twisting, turning road, it certainly doesn't have any real HP. All I can tell you is she called her mom, and a few friends last night and wouldn't stop talking about it.
First time I've had it that fast, fun for me too!
