My Grandson turned 16 today. I picked him up from school after he ditched his girlfriend. Then we went cruisn'. After a short cruise thru town I took him to the driver's exam office. He wrote his exam and passed on his first try (examiner said that is unusual). When we come out of the office I told him to put his "learner's plate" on the car. It is magnetic so had to just stick it on the rear bumper He was grinning from ear to ear as he climbed into the driver's seat. I think Grandpa was too. I know he had been driving his Mom's (5 spd) car and his Dad's (5 spd) truck in gravel pits etc. so I wasn't too worried. He did pretty good. The classic mistakes for a beginner but I kept him on the low (none) traffic streets. We live in a very small town so it was easy. He seemed to always accelerate just before grabbing 2nd gear. Not sure where he gets that from
Eventually I gave him directions for home. His Girlfriend was waiting for him there and was really surprised to see him driving the vette.
A great day for both the birthday boy and Grandpa.
Very Cool, Who Can say they got their license in a vette.
Actually Bruce in Canada they first get a temporary learner's license after completing a written test. Then a slow 2 year process gradually working up to a full license. He just did the first written test today. But his 1st LEGALLY driven vehicle is the vette. He is the only Grandson (there are 2 at 16 yrs old) that has helped me on the car. Heck even my son doesn't help very often. Although if I asked for help he would.
When my 2-1/2 year old grandson visited last fall, I showed him "Grandpa's blue car". He loved it, wanted to get in it, and played in it for a while. Then I said, "You know, when you get older and learn to drive...and, if you can work on it and take care of it, this might be 'Michael's blue car'." He grinned, ear-to-ear and said, "Michael's blue car! Michael's blue car!" Ooops. I guess we both own it now....
