Default new carpet

Im installing new carpet in my 76 from willcox corvettes. I let the carpet sit in the sun for a couple of days but Im still having trouble with the carpet in the back laying down. I have not glued it yet thinking the interior heat, when the car is parked, will help it lay down some then glue if needed. Am I on the right track? Any help is always appreciated.

Use a heat gun (aka hair dryer) to get the carpet to conform. Heat the back side and work the wrinkles out a little at a time. You may have to repeat this process a few times.

If the problem area has been molded or sewn into that shape, you may not be able to improve it much. If it is just 'wrong', call the vendor & describe the problem...they may exchange it for another one. Two days in the sun is way too much. UV rays aren't particularly good for plastic (nylon carpet). You should only need the sun to heat it up for 15-20 minutes...it doesn't change its shape being in the sun any longer than that. If you want to reduce exhaust/tranny heat from your cabin, install heat barrier [NOT sound deadener] under the carpeting. Reflectix [Home Depot] is the least expensive way to go; there are other more expensive options. Use 3M spray adhesive [also H.D.] to attach the insulation; you only need to use glue under the carpet for upward sloping or vertical surfaces.
