I think it might have been from a 79 I had years ago but I can't remember.

Yep, that's what it is, as it's the same as my 80. I had the fun of that belt guard falling off and trying to figure out where in the engine compartment it came from.

Looks like the belt guard attached to my ALT bracket on my 80. I had this HORRID noise coming from under my hood at 3000 RPMs, a loose ALT belt was the cause...its was slapping against the belt guard.
