Pardon my ignorance on this one but I wanted to know what is best. My CE has the original smog pump on the engine. I wanted to know if it is a difficult procedure as well is it beneficial to remove the pump?

Not only is it NOT beneficial, it would not be the right thing to do in a lot of ways. First, it's harmless and uses about 1 horsepower to run. Second, it helps clean the exhaust.
Last though, your car is computerized and the smog pump sends air to the cat, which sends feedback to the computer. You would screw all that up.
Contrary to the advice above, the air pump removed will not affect your cars computer whatsoever.
If you want, go ahead and remove it. The additional air valves etc. can also be removed. Part of this system is the air tube feed going to your catalytic converter. Here is where the problem is.
You either have to get a new high flow catalytic converter that does not need the air injection to create additional heat, or get a "test pipe" that eliminates the converter completely.
Either way you handle the exhaust, your car will run just fine without the air pump.
Thank you, thank you! I understand/understood the function from the beginning, but had always heard over the years that they robbed HP. If the HP drain is minimal as stated then it seems no problem. I would only make very minor changes to this car since it is a CE, so I guess that particular one is not needed. I've only had this particular one for about a month and want to learn all I can about it's mechanics. Thanks again, guys!
