Who says original cars are worth more than customs?

Somebody paid 185K for this plus 10% buyer's commision for a grand total of $203,500. Looks like a very high quality fresh car but who would think in this economy that it would bring that kind of money? I guess it just goes to show you never know.

I don't even think it is that nice of a car. To over the top for me although I wouldn't mind the motor. But if you have 200k lying around why not.

You know, looking through the auctions, there were a lot of really reasonable sales. I wish I had the disposable income right now to buy something!

Ugly? C'mon I wouldn't go that far. I think the workmanship looks pretty nice from the pictures and, while there are some things I would change, I can't say that I'd call it ugly.

I watched a lot of that BJ auction last night and the whole theme of the evening was restomods/customs. They got around $400k for a nicely done 69 Camaro Custom. oddly, and they only showed it in the NAPA "great Buys" piece, was a 69 427/390 Coupe in Riverside Gold, went for just $40k. The customs have been getting overpriced for the last couple years, it looks like Craig has found a niche market where he can make money while the collector car market is soft.

What I musta missed is that "69 427/390" did look like a sweet machine for 40k, but I coulda sworn it had a SB hood on it. But again, I musta missed it.

Customs definately took off compared to some nice original cars. I'd sell my 81 for less than half of that and be happy.

I watched that car sell. Didn't do anything for me. If memory serves, it was supposed to have had zero miles since completion. Outer tailights only worked when they pushed it off stage. Makes no sense to have a 68 if all four don't light.

the back fender flares are a little wide for my taste but i like the interior

Okay so some fellow with way more toad pelts that gray matter over paid at BJ does that really shock you all that much, the same car would sit on Fleabay or CL for months, I know I see them all the time,

Lol...NO vette Ugly and this one is far from it, while opinions will vary I have to wonder about a person calling this car "ugly" perhaps sour grapes perhaps jealous....I would like to see the build of a person who calls this car ugly so I can gauge what they think is beautiful and well built.

Now, that doesn't mean everyone has to like every bit of it, I don't,
I love the flares and molded in front spoiler, it's not unlike several praised builds on this forum,

I am not sure about the recessed light buckets with the small Geo storm/Camaro headlights, look more squinty than snakey to me.
I never liked the trend of two toned interiors, but in some cars it works very well,
I see what doesn't flow for me, While nothing is as timeless and more beautiful than a racer inspired C3 custom, the 73-79 front bumper really throws this BJ car off for me, but the build is very good.

Here is a comparison of the BJ custom and 3 others, no 2 are the same, each is a personal expression of the talented builders and each one built to the highest level of work and craftsmanship.
While you might not like ever modification or "custom" touch what these cars share is the styling inspiration of racer C3's and that is a timeless beauty that just is never Ugly.
